DBX Trader: closing your account and deleting your data

DBX Trader is the mobile trading app of Dunbell Securities Limited, a SEC-regulated stockbroker and dealing member of the Nigerian Exchange, published on Google Play by Programos Software Group.

Because we hold your investments and records under capital market and anti-money-laundering laws, we can’t delete an account the moment we’re asked. This page explains what happens to your data.

Close account and delete personal data: Account is settled and closed, access ends, and data we no longer need is deleted. Legally required records are kept (section 5).

Time duration: After settlement, then 30 days.

Joint accounts need all holders. Company accounts need authorised signatories with a board resolution. For minors, a parent or guardian can ask. For a deceased client, executors or administrators apply at our office with probate or letters of administration. Someone acting for you needs your signed authority.

We act only on verified requests: They must come from your registered e-mail or phone, and we confirm by call-back or one-time code. We may also ask for a signed instruction and ID. We never ask for your password or one-time codes.

You must transfer or sell your shares, cancel or complete pending orders and applications, and pay any amounts owed. Cash is paid only to your registered bank account after settlement. We send a final statement showing a nil position. You can withdraw your request until we confirm closure in writing.

Deleted within 30 days: Sign-in and security settings, device and notification data, optional information, and uploaded documents the law doesn’t require us to keep.

Kept for at least 5 years after closure (longer if SEC, NGX, CSCS, tax or company law, a dispute or an investigation requires): KYC records, account and trade records, contract notes, statements, and records of your instructions, consents and complaints. This is required by the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022. These records are stored securely, used only for legal, regulatory and audit purposes, then deleted or anonymised.

Closing your Dunbell account does not close your CSCS account or Clearing House Number (CHN), which stay yours and can be used with another stockbroker. To move brokers, we transfer your shares through the CSCS procedure on your instruction. CSCS, company registrars, the Nigerian Exchange, the SEC, NIBSS and NIMC keep their own records as separate controllers, and Dunbell can’t delete them. Contact them directly, and we’ll tell you whom to contact.

The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 allows us to keep data needed for legal compliance or legal claims. We may delay or decline a request, in whole or part, if trades or payments haven’t settled, money is owed, a complaint or legal action is open, a court order or regulator directive applies, or anti-money-laundering obligations apply. We’ll tell you what we can do and when we’ll review again.

We acknowledge requests within 2 business days. Personal data is deleted within 30 days of our written closure confirmation. If we need longer, we’ll tell you why.
